Chapter 12: Summer of Firsts and Lasts
Finn grasps the hem of my baby blue top, allowing his fingers to slide against my warm skin, his ice-cold touch reverberating through my body. He swiftly pulls it over my head in one quick motion and releases his lips from mine as he parts them and pauses, staring at me for a moment. His piercing gaze cuts right through me, leaving me breathless.
“You’re so beautiful, Natalie.” he says softly, undoing the buttons on his denim shirt, artfully draping it over the bedpost, his eyes still locked on mine. I suddenly feel so self-conscience, he’s so perfect and here I am in a pink polka-dot bra with my fuzzy pajama bottoms still on. He makes his way back to me maintaining his sensuous gaze.
“What makes you so brave this morning?” he whispers, now inches away from my face. I feel myself blushing again. I’ve really got to kick this habit. “I don’t know, maybe because I’m frustrated as hell with all of your early morning seduction…” I mutter, shrugging. His mouth presses into a fine line and he licks his upper lip, with clear intent. He smirks, “I haven’t even begun, babe.” he begins kissing me, letting it deepen. He slowly begins working his hands up my thighs, now tugging at the waistband of my pajamas. I’m panting. I want him so much.
I wriggle myself out of my pajama bottoms and he tosses them aside. Leaning over, he brushes my hair away from my face.
“Do you really want this, Natalie?”
“Yes…please.” I mumble.
“Why?” he asks softly tracing his finger up and down my cheek.
Why? Why do I have to have a reason? I don’t know how to answer this…Why is it right at this moment that he decides to converse with me?
“I don’t know! Please…Finn, I don’t want to talk right now.”
“You don’t have to have a reason, I just want to understand you better is all,” he says.
He pulls me in, his hands wandering. I revel in his touch. I close my eyes and kiss him.
All of a sudden, I hear the door swings open, “Hey, guys! Guess who’s here!” Shit. Jack. I open my eyes, and shuffle off of Finn attempting to cover myself, obviously not quickly enough.
“Oh my god! I am so sorry! Uh, I’ll…oh my god.” Jack stumbles to explain, slamming the door shut and presumably laughing his ass off.
“Talk about mood-killer” I groan, reaching for my clothes. Finn laughs, “Perhaps it’s a sign that it wasn’t the right time.”
“Wait, what’s that supposed to mean?” I ask, confused.
“Maybe it just wasn’t the right time?” he replies, still lying down without his shirt on.
“So, you didn’t want to do anything? Is that what you’re saying?”
“You’re thinking too much, Nat.”
Why are men so hard to understand? I roll my eyes, readjusting the drawstrings of my pajama bottoms and leave go to find Jack.
“Where are you going?” he calls after me.
“Looking for your brother. Put your shirt on and ask Emma if she’s ready.” I reply, still annoyed. If he didn’t want to do anything, he shouldn’t have gone on teasing me and going along with it.
“4 hours from now and we’ll be there!” Jack states enthusiastically as he sets his rucksack into the truck of the car. I am dreading being stuck in a car with Emma for that long. Thankfully, Jack and Emma both slide in the back, saving me from having to be seated next to her. I slip into the passenger’s seat next to Finn whom I’m still quite annoyed at.
“We’ve made it!” Jack says, as we pull into our weekend destination. It’s nearly 5 o’clock. We’ve beat the time frame we’ve set up by nearly an hour, due in part to Finn’s driving.
It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s a lovely rural area with farm homes scattered and the beach is just moments away. We check in at the farmhouse and are lead to our “holiday pods.”
“Isn’t it gorgeous out here?” Finn asks, placing his hand in mine.
“Mhm, it’s lovely.” I say, still taking in the view.
“Are you still mad at me?” he murmurs into my ear.
I sigh, looking up at him, “No, I’m not. You’re annoying and confusing but I’m not mad at you.”
Finn grins at me and we quicken our pace to catch up with the others who are already ahead of us.
After our guide leaves and we finish settling into our pods, we decide to start a fire and roast marshmallows. Finn and I are sharing a pod and Jack and Emma are sharing the other. I feel bad for them being stuck together considering they aren’t exactly crazy for one another’s company but I wasn’t about to room Emma.
It gets dark soon and Emma is the first to retire for the night.
“I’m sorry Natalie, but I really don’t think she likes me all too much and I can’t say I like her either. Can I just stay with you guys?” Jack pleads.
Finn chuckles, “Uh, only if you’d like to walk into a scene much like the one you did this morning, Jackamo.”
“Yeah…I think I’ll just stay with Emma then…” Jack responds, reluctantly returning to his pod.
I blush at the thought of this morning. Wait—what does he mean? Does this mean he’s planning on something tonight?
I give him an inquisitive look and he just smiles. Of course.
